Brachial Plexus Reconstruction Services
Each child is affected differently by brachial plexus injuries, and our multidisciplinary
team works closely with the parents of each child to determine the most appropriate treatment plan.
Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta offers a multidisciplinary brachial plexus clinic, available three times a month, at the Children’s Judson L. Hawk Jr., M.D., Clinic for Children, which is located on the Children’s at Scottish Rite campus. Our pediatric-trained staff is dedicated to caring for children with brachial plexus injuries. Our comprehensive approach to care combines the talents of advanced pediatric specialists to achieve better outcomes for your child.
There are two primary treatment options for brachial plexus injuries: occupational or physical therapy exercises and surgery plus therapy exercises. There is no simple test to know exactly what nerves are damaged or how extensive the injuries are. When our team evaluatess your child, they will be looking for:
- how well your child’s muscles have developed
- if he uses the muscles in the affected shoulder, arm and hand
- if he has feeling in his arm
- differences between what he can do with his "good" arm and what he can do with the affected arm
