Scoliosis Screening Program
The Children's Scoliosis Screening Program provides annual screening for students, as well as annual training for health department nurses, school nurses, volunteers, physical education teachers and school health workers about screening for scoliosis. The program also provides tertiary screening to children who have been identified as having positive scoliosis screens. The Children's Scoliosis Screening program has been a part of Children’s for more than 20 years.
The Children's Scoliosis Screening Program:
- Conducts specialized scoliosis screenings in Immediate Care Centers.
- Detects and refers children for early scoliosis treatment.
- Distributes educational and training material statewide.
- Provides training sessions, in which individuals are trained to perform scoliosis screenings.
- Collaborates with eight Georgia counties and four city school systems in the metro Atlanta to aid with the coordination of primary screenings.
Scoliosis Screening Conference
This free, informative conference will take place 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 29 and Friday, Oct. 15, 2010. Registration and a continental breakfast for both days will begin at 8 a.m. Lunch also is provided. A pediatric orthopaedic surgeon, a registered nurse and a certified orthotist will speak each day.
